Our Mission: to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality of care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Susan G. Komen is the boldest community fueling the best science and making the biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested almost $2 billion to fulfill our promise, working to end breast cancer in the U.S. and throughout the world through ground-breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 50 countries.
The Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.
The Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate’s service area covers the Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties. Thanks to the thousands of people who participate in the Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Race for the Cure® and other Affiliate events each year, dedicated corporate partners and generous donors, Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is playing a vital role in fighting breast cancer in our community.
Every 3 years we evaluate the community we serve to ensure that the grants we provide make the biggest impact.
