Susan G. Komen for the Cure Miami/Ft. Lauderdale and Waste Services (WSI) recently announced their partnership and commitment to increase breast cancer awareness.
To mark their union, WSI hosted an event on July 14th at Bongo's Cuban Cafe in Miami to unveil a special edition pink recycling truck. The new truck incorporates the familair Susan G. Komen pink ribbon design that has come to symbolize the resolve of women across the glove in the face of breast cancer.
"WSI's promise to help raise awareness in such a unique way will work to ignite diaglogue about this deadly disease and perhaps inspire more women to take control of their breast health," said Bobbi Meyers, executive director of the Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate.
The pink truck is part of Waste Services Inc.'s ongoing community outreach efforts to connect, communicate and give back to the people it serves as we recycle and help clean up the environment.
"This year we wanted to show our commitment to the communities beyond just hauling trash, recycling, and keeping the streets clean," said WSI regional vice president, Vahé Gabriel. "At WSI, by branding and painting our recycling trucks pink in support of medical research, we accomplish that."
The pink truck will begin servicing its routes in Miami-Dade County and will donate 10% of its proceeds to Komen's Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate as it serves as a rolling billboard for the fight against breast cancer.
